Radio Frequency (RF) Radiation Reports

While many people express concerns about radio frequency (RF) radiation or emissions, not many property owners with cell sites have seen the RF radiation reports that are typically prepared for cellular installations.

While measuring RF levels is a challenge due to many factors, computer modeling has come a long way in recent years. Many wireless installations require an RF emissions report as part of the permit application process.

A challenge we regularly see with these reports is the “points of interest” (POI) or points of measurement selected. In many cases, these points are not where people actually spend time, and the areas of greatest potential exposure are not always the areas measured.

Property owners rarely, if ever, see these reports. In our view, these reports go a long way to answering questions about the safety of cellular installations. If you have a cell site on your property, you have the right to request a copy of the RF emissions report prepared for your site.

The reports will typically model the estimated propagation pattern for each antenna on the rooftop, as well as the combined effect of all antennas. Gunnerson Consulting can help you obtain and interpret these reports. Contact us today for assistance.
